Sanusi Lamido Sanusi whose regnal name is Muhammed Sanusi II, was born on 31 July, 1961 at Kano, the northern region of Nigeria, to Aminu Sanusi and Saudatu Hassain.
His father, Sa’adatu Musdafa, was a diplomat, an Ambassador for Nigeria in Canada, China and Belgium. Afterwards was appointed as the permanent secretary of the ministry of Foreign Affairs, also the Chiroma of Kano.
His grandfather on the other hand was the 11th Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi I.
Sanusi hails from Sulubawa Clan Fulani. He was the 14th Emir of Kano from 2015 – 2020. Just after the death of his grand uncle Ado Bayero in 2014, he was coronated on 7 February 2015. On 9 March 2020 the governor, Abdullah Ganduje heave-ho him.
Sanusi is married to Ado Bayero, Maryann, Rakiya and Sa’adatu Musdafa.
In 2015,the controversy that surrounded his marriage with his fourth wife Sa’adatu Musdafa in 2015, was based on her age. The 18 year old was the daughter of Muhammed Barkindo-Musdafa.

EDUCATION AND CAREER
Sanusi, the economist and banker was the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria 2009-2014 before he became the Emir.
He was suspended by Goodluck Jonathan, the then President, after the NNPC scandal of US$20 billion.
Sanusi attended Kings College, Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied economics, 1977,1981 respectively.
In 1983, he received masters degree in economics where he also lectured in the same faculty, he further studied Islamic Law at International University of Africa, Khartoum, Sudan.
He has been an advocate of Islamic banking, proposed for its advancement while he was the Governor Central Bank of Nigeria . He has received awards for his advocacy among others.
Before he became the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he started off as a banker.
In 1985 he worked for Icon Limited in New York, a branch of Guarantee Trust Bank (Gtb).
In 1997, he worked with United Bank For Africa(UBA) in the Credit and Risk Management Unit.
Through his competence, he attained a Manager level in January, 2009, while he was also the Director of the Kakawa Discount House.
Few years later, he became one of the board of directors in the first and largest bank in Nigeria, First Bank of Nigeria (FBN).
Sanusi was appointed the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria during the global financial crisis on 1 June, 2019, by the administration of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

The erstwhile Emir on 9 March 2020, got to know of his impeachment while in his mansion in Gidan Rumfa, but he waited for the official letter until the Military, Police and security operatives marched his place and asked him out. It was indeed a humiliation.
He was not just dethroned but also banished from Kano to Nassarawa State, to a two bedroom apartment. The transition from a mansion to a two bedroom apartment, is considered too low for a man of Sanusi’s class. A man born in royalty whose father was a crown prince.
Sanusi, at first, accepted his deposition in good faith owing it to the will of Allah. But for the banishment, his lawyers saw to it that it was retracted.
On March 13,the Federal Government ordered for his release.
