Atiku Abubakar was born on 25th November 1946, from Adamawa state. He was the only surviving child of his parents. Atiku is a businessman, a politician and also the PDP presidential aspirant for 2019.
Due to his lonely life growing up without a sibling, Atiku for this purpose married five women, he divorced his second wife and now left with four wives. Atiku has 26 children from all five women, and also a grandfather of more than five children. Atiku is currently 70 years old, a very interesting and hardworking man. He is a Muslim, and he was the former Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 where Obasanjo was the president.

ATIKU ABUBAKAR started property investment business in 1984. It began When he applied and got a loan from federal staff housing loan where he got a loan that amounted to his five years’ salary in customer service. He got a suitable plot of land in Yola GRA and hired a foreman that help in the construction of his first house which is a bungalow. He rented out the house.
Then he used the money he earned from the rent and purchase another plot of land in the same area, this second house he also rented out. And then he used this strategy to build eight beautiful houses in choice areas in Yola. According to Atiku, he invested also in Kaduna and built residential houses which he bought six plots of land to build.
These residential houses were also rented out to interested individual and institutions. property investment business started progressing, in 1981, he started an agricultural business, he acquired a maize and cotton farm where he works so hard to earn from. After five years due to the massive loss of income he experienced from the farm, he closed it down, that was in 1986.
After so much effort to pull through, Atiku Abubakar began a business with an Italian businessman known as Gabrielle Volpi, they established NICOTES (Nigeria Container Services) currently known as INTELS (Integrated and Logistics services).
This business idea was brought by Volpi, who was a director in a shipping company known as MED Africa. When Volpi was convinced that the future of Nigeria is in oil and gas, so Volpi and Atiku partnered together to establish NICOTES.
They registered the business and it started to operate, though Atiku was not among the people running the business NICOTES business is based locally and internationally, today NICOTES is a multimillion company, providing massive job opportunities for youths in Nigeria and Africa at large, reasonable dividend is paid to the company’s shareholders.
Atiku who is a man of dreams and had eyes for success even though he is from a poor background became a successful Entrepreneur, through NICOTES company, Abubakar became one of the wealthiest men in Nigeria.
ATIKU in 2004 foundered American University of Nigeria (AUN), this university is a private university in a northeastern part of Nigeria that offers American style in higher education programs to undergraduates, graduates, and professional level. The university is the only American style university in sub-Saharan Africa. AUN has been accredited by the Nigerian universities’ commissions, it is one of the best schools in Nigeria and Africa at large.

ATIKU whose educational life would have been ruined by his father before he was rescued by his community began schooling when he was eight. In 1960 he got admitted into Adamawa provincial secondary school In Yola where he graduated in 1965 with WAEC certificate.
In 1966 he worked as a tax officer in a ministry of finance and also continued his education where he attended the school of hygiene in Kano.
He graduated from there in 1967. In the same year of his graduation, he proceeded to study a diploma in law under a scholarship in Ahmadu Bello university where he graduated from in 1969. After school to this level, Atiku got employed to work in Nigeria Custom service where he worked for 20 years achieving the second highest rank in the service. He retired in 1989 and then ventured into business.

Atiku’s political career started in 1980, though he did not start contesting immediately but focused on campaigning for people while he was still in customer service. like Bamanga Tukur, who was a governorship candidate, that he helped to get a reasonable number of votes from his campaign. Also, he campaigned for Shehu Musa Yar’Adua when he ruled as the second in command of the military government.
In 1989, Atiku became the vice chairman of the National body known as people’s front of Nigeria. This position he held was made possible by Shehu Musa Yar’Adua because he is the leader of the political association.
In 1992, he ran for the presidency under PDP which was unsuccessful. Atiku started contesting for Governorship for Adamawa in 1999 under the Nigerian political party known as Action Congress, which is now APC. He won the election but was called upon by the PDP presidential candidate General Olusegun Obasanjo, who choose him to be his running mate as the vice president.
Atiku became the vice president under PDP, He became the 11th Vice president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. During the presidential election in 2006- 2007, he ran for the presidency which was won by Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
He ran again for the presidency in 2011 which was won by Goodluck Jonathan, and also for the presidency in 2015 won by Buhari. Currently, Atiku is the presidential candidate from PDP, whose running mate is Mr. Peter Obi, for 2019 presidency.
